Dank der Linux-Grundlage des N900 kann man auch mit Bordmitteln die WM live auf dem N900 verfolgen. Dazu benötigt man nur die von heise veröffentlichten Stream-Adressen sowie mplayer. Anschließend reicht das Öffnen eines Terminals und das Kommando:
mplayer -playlist (URL)
Getestet habe ich das mit dem ARD-Stream “m”, der super funktioniert hat. Die Adresse könnt ihr übrigens einfach im normalen Browser kopieren (Wischen vom Linken Rand nach rechts startet den Kopiermodus, kopiert wird mit STRG+C) und im Terminal über das Menü einfügen.

Mit einigen Tagen Verspätung erscheint der neue Ovi Store für Maemo. Er ist zwar immer noch “beta” betitelt, enthält jetzt aber Paid-Apps:

Derzeit scheint aber nur das Angry-Birds Levelpack sowie Quick Panorama verfügbar zu sein. Laut “PeterMeego” (Peter Schneider) kommt der Rest aber wohl in Kürze:

Über den Update-Manager steht jetzt auch für deutsche N900-Benutzer das Firmware-Update 1.2 zur Verfügung. Wie auch bei bisherigen Updates wird hier sehr viel “rootfs”-Space benötigt (also Platz auf der “/”-Partition) – wie das geht kann man im maemo-Wiki nachlesen.

Wie Nokia ebenfalls schreibt, erscheint heute das langersehnte Update 1.2 in Großbritannien, morgen im Rest der Welt:
Attention Nokia N900 owners: there’s a new software update coming your way this week (UK release today, and global release tomorrow Wednesday, May 26).
Neu ist auch der überarbeitete Ovi-Store, der wohl nun – endlich – dauerhaft Paid-Apps anbietet. Hier nochmal das Video mit den neuen Spielen:

Wie Nokia heute verlauten lässt, wird es kein offizielles Upgrade auf Meego für das N900 geben:
Moving away from the update and to look at MeeGo and the Nokia N900. Many of you have been asking whether the new MeeGo platform will be supported on the N900 once it’s device-ready. Although Nokia N900 devices are being used for platform development and testing purposes by those involved in the MeeGo project, we don’t have plans for a full scale commercial MeeGo upgrade on the Nokia N900. We’re proud to present the first preview build of Opera Mobile 10 for Nokia N900 and N800/N810.
Back in 2005, Nokia released the Nokia N770. The included web browser was developed by Opera Software. In 2008, Nokia chose to stop including Opera with Maemo, switching instead to a browser developed internally. Today’s preview build marks our unofficial return to the Maemo platform, after a little over 3 years of absence.
This Maemo version of Opera Mobile 10 was created as a hobby project by a small team of developers in their spare time. (labs.opera.com)

In einer Vorab-Version von PR 1.2 wurde nun entdeckt, dass man mit der Tastenkombination Strg+Shift+R überall in den Portrait-Modus wechseln kann. Einige Anwendungen, darunter die “Gespräche” und Email, unterstützen diesen Modus auch durch das Anpassen des Layouts, andere, wie der Media-Player können dies noch nicht. Firmware 1.2 steht in den Startlöchern… Kann heute oder nächste Woche rauskommen.
Wollte euch diese Info nicht vorenthalten ! Nokia muss nur noch 2-3 Bugs beheben….
und freud euch auf MeeGo. (wenn es dann mal draussen ist – glaub das wird der Hit !!! )

Only a few day’s ago, Nokia officially released the Nokia Qt SDK which is a Nokia focused version of the original Qt SDK, and allows better development of applications for all Symbian, MeeGo and Maemo operating systems which means games, and applications can work great of all platforms.
This is better for developers as it means that they are able to port their application across to a much greater number of consumers quicker, the developers in the video below stated that they have:
- rewritten an application from native Symbian into Qt in 3-4 weeks
- seen their applications available
